Changes of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Filing Fees
What is Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the U.S.?
TPS is a temporary benefit and DHS Secretary has discretionary authority, and she may designate a country for TPS due to the following temporary conditions in the country such as:
Ongoing armed conflict (such as civil war)
An environmental disaster (such as earthquake or hurricane), or an epidemic
Other extraordinary and temporary conditions
To be granted any other immigration benefit, the applicant must still meet all the eligibility requirements for the other specific immigrant categories. However, TPS granted status does not affect another application such as asylum applications or any other immigration application. Please see this link for more information about “TPS Status”.
Changes of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Filing Fees
On July 18, 2025, USCIS announced that the new fees are required for certain USCIS forms including TPS Form I-821 and its EAD applications on or after July 22, 2025. USCIS specifically stated that they will reject any form postmarked after August 21, 2025, without the proper fees. Changes of filing fees for TPS and its EAD applications are significantly changed as below.
What are the TPS and its EAD validation dates?
USCIS clearly states that the persons with TPS, initial and renewal employment authorizations are valid for no more than one year or for the duration of their TPS status, whichever is shorter. Also, USCIS specifically describes that each fee must be submitted separately.
