What is the Gold Card?
Gold Card or Trump Gold Card that was proposed by President Trump, and any eligible applicant can put their names in the waiting list through U.S. government official website. Since the official website has been launched, any interested person can join the waitlist for the next step. The president also described this program as a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” and the applicant is required to make a payment of $5 million to the U.S. government.
What is the eligibility requirement for the Gold Card?
It will cost $5 million to get the Gold Card and it is designed to offer wealthy foreign investors to live and work in the U.S. permanently. In other words, the eligible applicant can get a path to U.S. permanent residency and citizenship if they commit at least $5 million to projects within the U.S.
What is the difference between the regular EB 5 program and the Gold Card program?
The similarity of both programs is to gain a permanent residency status in the U.S. through investment options (and immigrant visa classification). However, for the EB 5 program applicant, the minimum investment amount is $800,000 in targeted employment area (TEA) or $1,050,000 in non-TEA or metropolitan area. For the Gold Card, if they can make a payment of $5 million to the U.S. government, they will be eligible for a permanent residency status.
According to the comments from the Commerce Secretary, the EB5 program could be replaced with the Gold Card program in the future. Then, according to president’s comments in CNBC news, the Gold Card holders are not liable for federal income tax on income earned outside the U.S. If the EB 5 program is replaced by the Gold Card program, there will be debatable in the Congress because the EB 5 visa program was reauthorized by the U.S. Congress in 2022.
