Regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Burma (Myanmar)
According to 89 FR 20682, an eligible Burmese national can apply TPS program. Per USCIS history, extension and redesignation of the designation of Burma for TPS begins on May 26, 2024, and will remain in effect until November 25, 2025. Refer to following highlights for TPS(Burma) applicant.
Initial TPS Designation Date —- May 25, 2021
Current TPS Designation Date —- May 26, 2024
Continuous Residence in United States Since —- March 21, 2024
Continuous Physical Presence in United States Since —- May 26, 2024
Re-Registration Period for People Who Already Have TPS —- March 25, 2024 - May 24, 2024
TPS Designated Through —- Nov. 25, 2025
Registration Period for People Who are Applying for TPS for the First Time: March 25, 2024 – Nov. 25, 2025
Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Auto-Extended Through May 25, 2025
If the applicant is filing an initial application for TPS under Burma’s redesignation, effective May 26, 2024, he/she must register during the registration period that runs from March 24, 2024, through Nov. 25, 2025. The applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible within the registration period.
If the applicants currently have TPS under Burma’s designation and he/she want to keep their TPS, they must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period that runs from March 25, 2024, through May 24, 2024. The applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible within the 60-day re-registration period.
EAD Cards with TPS Status
The TPS recipients may show the following documentation to their employer.
Current TPS-related EAD with a May 25, 2024, or Nov. 25, 2022, expiration date; and
A copy of the Federal Register notice announcing the automatic extension
If TPS registration application is approved and the applicant filed Form I-765 and paid the fee for an EAD (fee waiver request was approved), USCIS will issue an EAD with an expiration date of Nov. 25, 2025.
